Newsletter: October 2010

The time has finally arrived for our delegates to go to Terra Madre. We hope to have some great pictures and more importantly some inspiring information to share with everybody when we return. The delegates have agreed to host a local conference that will give everyone a chance to come out and listen to the message being delivered at this International Conference. We are proud of the people who are representing our great city and know they will take advantage of this great opportunity.

We want to thank everybody who attended our “Dig In” event at World Café Live a couple of weeks ago. This National Slow Food USA campaign had chapters around the country holding simultaneous events and we did our part. We especially want to thank the generosity of World Café Live, Healthy Bites, and Trolley Stop for hosting, feeding, and entertaining us during this event. High View Farm donated a $100 gift certificate to help us raise money. Our list of organizations that participated included;
Greater Philadelphia Coalition Against Hunger
MANNA
Harvest Local Foods
The Restaurant School
The Reading Terminal Market
Fair Food Farmstand
PASA (Pennsylvania Association for Sustainable Agriculture)
BT Baking
UNI Urbane Nutrition Initiative

Andrea Rossi hosted a spectacular dinner at Cichetteria 19 that featured the wines of the PA local Penns Woods Winery, the cheese of Shellbark Hollow Farms, and for dessert John & Kira’s Chocolates. Representatives of all three purveyors had an opportunity to be introduced and talk about their products.

Mark your calendars for Thursday, November 18th, for a wine & cheese event being held at Noble, An American Cookery, from 5:30 to 7:00 pm with a guest speaker Casey Spacht of Lancaster Farm Fresh Co-op. More details to follow soon.
