Our Slow Food chapter truly appreciates the support that we have been getting at our events. Our partnership with local food organizations has been growing “organically”. We look for your involvement and support as we move into prime growing seasons. Farm to City and The Food Trust both provide local Farmer Markets in your neighborhood so you can find links on our website to their respective websites for a directory. We try to keep our website and Facebook page updated with events happening in the region that we support. Please note tickets are now on sale for Good Food, Good Beer and the Rest is History event happening on Saturday, July 16th. This year we are serving a pig roast and beer provided by our friends listed on the event page. This is a joint fundraiser with Slow Food Philly and Farm to City.
A few notes of interest…
- We are looking for volunteers for our annual Good Food, Good Beer, and the Rest is History event on July 16th. We need people to help set up and breakdown tables. Please e-mail your contact information to info@slowfoodphilly.org and put volunteer in the heading. Someone will contact you with further information.
- Backyard Gardens is a startup company that provides recycled plastic raised beds and tunnels and they reached out to Slow Food for advice and with our direction have donated several boxes to the Coalition Against Hunger for their community garden.
- We still have a few seats left for our dinner at Café du Laos in South Philadelphia. All inclusive $25 Laotian dinner on Monday, June 20, 7 – 10pm, please call the restaurant at 215-467-1546 to make your reservation.
- Please help support The Wyck House Food Festival and Symposium, Friday, June 24th, 4pm to 7pm, Free Community Festival to include Food Tastings, a Slow Food Cooking Demo with Les Dames d’Escoffier Society, Music, Children’s activities. On Saturday from 9 am to 3:30 they will host an all day Symposium Program Cultivating our Food Roots. Guest speakers include William Woys Weaver, Michael Twitty, Ben Watson, and others and lunch will be catered by Geechee Girl Rice Café. - Les Dames d’Escoffier is also having an event at the Restaurant School at Walnut Hill College, 4207 Walnut St, Philadelphia, 19104, Registration $85, includes breakfast, lunch, all sessions, and an afternoon reception, on Saturday, June 11, 2011 from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. The event will feature workshops, panel discussions, demonstrations, hands-on classes, food and wine tastings, breakfast, a marketplace lunch, and a spirited afternoon reception, keynote speaker will be Judy Wicks.
