February 15 – Beekeeping w/ Urban beekeeper and owner of Two Gander Farm Trey Flemming
Buy Tickets

Trey is one of the leading experts on beekeeping and has been instrumental in promoting urban beekeeping. As a fellow beekeeper, I found his seminar to be one of the best I have ever attended and we are honored to have him lead this seminar. Even if you have never considered beekeeping, I guarantee you will find this seminar fascinating. We will serve mead and honey samples. Two Gander Farm also offers shares in their CSA so visit their website at http://twoganderfarm.com.

March 14 – Flour Seminar & Pasta Demo, Roberta Strickler of Daisy Organic Flour & Andrew Gerson of Strada Pasta
Buy Tickets

Daisy Flour is milled and produced in Annville, PA in rural Lancaster County. On the banks of the Quittapahilla Creek sits an historic Certified Organic flour mill where Roberta Strickler produces her many types of organic flour. Her flour can be found at the Fair Food Farmstand in the Reading Terminal Market and used at many local restaurants in their bread, pastry, pizza, and of course pasta.

Strada Pasta owner Andrew Gerson, who returned last year to his home here in Philly as a graduate of the University of Gastronomic Sciences in Bra, Italy, will demonstrate pasta making using Daisy Flour.

Learn all about local, fresh, small batch, organic, artisanal flour from our region’s top miller and then see her product being used to make fresh pasta from a classically trained pasta maker. Food sampling and wine served.

Keeping our friends and members informed…

  • We were represented at the recent PASA (PA Association for Sustainable Agriculture) Conference. An amazing learning experience and always a pleasure to rub elbows with many of our friends who are local farmers.
  • The very first Philly Farm & Food Fest opens Sunday, April 1, 2012 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center Annex. A collaboration between Fair Food and PASA (Pennsylvania Association for Sustainable Agriculture), Philly Farm & Food Fest will feature many regional farmers, food producers, artisanal food businesses, and other providers of sustainable goods and services from across our region. Look for our Slow Food Philly table. http://phillyfarmfest.org
  • We are supporting the community Schuylkill Farm for Youth, a program of the North Light Community Center in Manayunk. We urge you to come out to their 75th Hobo Ball being held on Saturday, February 25th, 2011, 7:00pm to 11:00pm at the Artesano Iron Works Gallery 4446 Cresson Street in Manayunk. Go to their website to learn more and purchase tickets.
  • We are holding our first of the year “Collaboration Makes Us Stronger” luncheon this Friday at the Restaurant School. We have increased our guest list and now have over 20 sustainable food, local community farmer, hunger, and food education organizations in attendance. Your contributions at our events help make these types of collaborative community efforts possible so we ask that you continue to support us and we in turn support the causes of Slow Food.
